Silhouette Cameo cutting machines use SVG files for custom designs, just like Cricut. Here's how to convert your PNG designs to SVG for use with Silhouette Studio.

Converting for Silhouette

  1. Prepare your PNG — remove background, use high resolution
  2. Convert to SVG free using Shape to Vector
  3. Open Silhouette Studio (Designer Edition or higher for SVG import)
  4. File → Open → select your SVG file
  5. The design imports with cut lines ready

Silhouette Studio Editions

Basic Edition (free) cannot import SVG directly — you'll need to use the built-in Trace feature on PNG images. Designer Edition ($50 one-time) adds SVG import, making the workflow much smoother with pre-converted SVGs.

Tips

  • Convert to SVG before importing — Silhouette's built-in trace is less precise than dedicated converters
  • Check cut lines in the Send panel before cutting
  • Use the Offset tool to add a border around designs for sticker cutting
  • Group related shapes before cutting to keep them positioned correctly
