How to convert PNG sticker designs to SVG with cut lines for die-cut and print-then-cut stickers.

Custom stickers — whether die-cut vinyl, planner stickers, or laptop stickers — need vector paths for clean cutting. Here's how to turn your PNG sticker designs into cut-ready SVGs.

The Sticker Workflow

  1. Create or find your sticker design as PNG
  2. Remove the background (transparent PNG)
  3. Convert to SVG free with Shape to Vector
  4. Add a cut line offset in Inkscape or your cutting software
  5. Send to your Cricut, Silhouette, or professional sticker printer

Adding a Cut Line

Stickers need a cut path slightly outside the design (offset/bleed). In Inkscape: select your design, Path → Dynamic Offset, drag outward to create a border. This becomes your cut line. In Silhouette Studio: use the Offset tool. In Cricut Design Space: this is handled automatically.

Print-Then-Cut

For full-color stickers: print the PNG design on sticker paper, then use the SVG cut path for the cutting machine to cut around it. This gives you full-color printed stickers with precise die-cut edges.

Tips

  • Keep at least 2mm bleed around the design edge
  • Avoid very intricate outlines that are hard to weed
  • Test on cheap sticker paper before using premium material
