A practical guide on svg for social media graphics — when, why, and how.
Social media platforms don't accept SVG uploads directly, but SVG is still valuable in the social media graphics workflow — as the master format from which you export platform-specific images.
The SVG-First Workflow
Create your social media templates as SVG in Figma, Illustrator, or Inkscape. Use vector text, scalable icons, and editable colors. When you need to post, export as PNG or JPEG at the exact dimensions each platform requires — Instagram (1080×1080), Twitter (1600×900), LinkedIn (1200×627), etc.
Why This Approach Works
One SVG template can produce images for every platform at any resolution. Change text, swap colors, adjust dimensions, and export — all without quality loss. If you start with PNG, resizing for different platforms degrades quality.
Converting Existing Assets
If your brand assets (logo, icons, graphic elements) are currently PNG, convert them to SVG first. Then build your social templates around the vector versions for maximum flexibility.
